I have been quiet here on the blog for a while now, and I apologize, but I do have a good reason. I’ve been watching 24. Just kidding, but seriously, that’s about all we’ve had the energy to do this past week…
I have not been sick in I don’t know how long, but I never get sick! That is until one of our family members picked up a bug, brought it home and shared it abroad… We’ve been trying to kick it out over the past two weeks. At a certain point my body decided it had enough taking care of sickly ones and fighting off that sickness with precious little sleep.
It got to me when things were coming out green on Sienna’s face. That was it! Off we went to the doctor, and on went she to antibiotics. For the second time in her life, i might add. So far, she’s my only baby to ever have to take antibiotics. And that got me thinking, she the only baby I’ve not been able to breastfeed past 9 months. She’s my only child with food sensitivities and allergies. I just wonder if there’s a connection… There’s got to be.
While there have been threats to our families health over the last several years, we’ve always pulled through pretty well and quite quickly too! And we almost never go to the doctor, and even when we do, we look for more natural, healthy alternatives.
I thought I’d take a moment to make a list of my go to “medicine cabinet”:
D- 1st defense (for a cold) should be Vitamin D3 Dr. Mercola reccomends upping your intake to 1000 IU’s at the onset of a cold.
C- I am probably better at getting mega amounts of Vitamin C in me & my family. The quickest easiest way I’ve tried so far are those little packets of emergen-C packed with 1000 MG’s
Water water and more water. Can’t say enough about the benefits of water, so I’ll save that for later.
Sleep sleep sleep.
I always take a daily all-in-one supplement with all the vitamins, minerals, whole foods, antioxidants, probiotics you can want! But when I’m feeling week I always double up on the daily serving size.
Immunity- When I get ready to travel or I’ve been exposed to sick people I pop what has worked for me like magic: it’s called Re:Sist–basically its an immune booster.
Greens- As soon as I can I run to the grocery store and grab a bunch of greens and/or a bottle of green goodness. OR if going to pick up fresh green veggies isn’t an option I love to use Pure Synergy–it’s a super green food in capsule form.
Elderberry. Elderberry syrup. Elderberry homeopathic pills (dissolved under the tongue) Whatever form of this you can get your hands on… It’s worth a chance, sometimes I’ve noticed a big difference, sometimes not.
Zycn- preferably in the form of Zycam. I know some who swear by it, however, with overuse it can kill your taste buds:(
Oh! Last but not least; garlic! Raw garlic! Yes, it works. Blend a few cloves into your batch of hummus and it’s delightful!
Now, this list is not meant to be comprehensive, but a start. I’m continuing to tweak it, and build upon it. Go ahead, give a shout out for which of these have worked for you!
